Chinese New Year Event
Dixie Science Room (B5)

Dixie Parent Ling Zheng will teach us some Mandarin Chinese and show us how to write Chinese calligraphy with ink and brush. Students will get to practice writing with the brush and then make a final character piece on construction paper to give their parents. New Year's treats will be given out at the end of class.

Quechua Language for Kids: Quechua is spoken in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador and is a co-official language along with Spanish in Peru and Bolivia. It is an endanered language, and linguists predict it will become extinct by 2030 if policy isn't changed to support the language. If this interests you, you can also learn about Aymara, another endangered native Amerinind language spoken in Bolivia and Peru around Lake Titicaca.

The Charles Darwin Foundation - Learn all about the unique flora and fauna on the Galapagos Islands (off Ecuador) on this great multimedia website!) Browse the great pages of pictures and information about the Galapagos, then go to the Kid's Corner for real answers to basic questions about the Galapagos.

South American Money: Browse around and find out what paper money looks like in all the different countries in South America. Can you find the bill with a picture of a dog on it?!
