As an adult adoptee I would like to [thank you for your support of] [urge you to support] HB/SB ___ which would enable the adult adoptees of WA to obtain copies of their original, unaltered birth certificates. This right has been denied us for far too long, and it is time that this discrimination against one class of citizens solely due to the circumstances of their birth end. The Supreme Court has determined in the TN open records case (Doe v. Sundquist) that the right of privacy does not extend as far as maintaining anonymity from one's offspring, and it is time the states began to acknowledge this fact by restoring adoptees' rights to their own birth records.
I am not a resident of WA, but what you do in regard to this matter is being eagerly awaited by adult adoptees all over the country. I am actively involved in trying to change the law in my own state of PA, and I know that legislators take a careful look at what other states are doing. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
