Poisonous Plants
Know the Plants around your Home and in your Area

Are Poinsettias really deadly?
If ingested, poinsettias can cause stomach upset and mouth irritation. They are not fatal, as commonly thought. However, all plants should be kept out of the reach of children and pets.

Plants, both indoor and outdoor, can cause severe injury and even death if swallowed by humans and animals. Plants are one of the leading causes of poisonings in children and pets. Children are especially curious about mushrooms and berries. Small children should be taught not to eat any part of an unknown plant, shrub, tree, berry or mushroom. Know the plants in and around your home. If you don't know the name of a plant, take a cutting of that plant to a nursery and ask them to identify it.

If a plant in question is not listed here, contact your Regional Poison Center for information.
